Lifestyle Business

A simple description of a lifestyle business is one that enables you to live the life that you want.

My freelance business is a lifestyle job. I make money by writing (a thing I love). This allows me the flexibility to live wherever I want, and work whenever I feel like it. I’m also able to travel without having to take any time off, and I get to do things I enjoy. Finally, I’m around for my son.

A lifestyle business is usually one that focuses on the ways you live your life, whether that means sharing tips or offering coaching for people who want to live better lives.

For many running lifestyle business owners, it isn’t about building a physical storefront or creating a tangible product. Rather, they often work online and offer services or create courses or make money from webpages and/or podcasts.

Advantages of running a lifestyle business

As a freelance writer, I know there are lots of benefits to running this kind of business. Some of these things I enjoy include:

  • Flexibility: Working online allows me to set my own schedule. I decide what days and times I’ll work. I’m not tied down to any particular client. I can take breaks whenever I feel like it. And I get paid every week!
  • Freedom: I can choose when and where I want to go. I don’t have to be tied down to one place.
  • No Employees: If you’re not interested in hiring employees, then you might want to consider starting a business that doesn’t require them.
  • Income: Making enough to live the life you want means making enough to pay for the expenses associated with running your business. For example, if you’re working from home, you may not be paying rent or utilities. You might be able to cut down on some of your expenses by living somewhere cheaper than where you currently live.

Think about what you really want to do with your life. Are you hoping to make lots of money? Or maybe you’d rather spend your days doing something meaningful. Either way, figure out what you truly want, then choose whether a traditional career might work best for you.
