What are Stress and Anxiety?
Stress is a feeling that you get when you perceive some kind of threat or challenge to you, your beliefs, or your identity. Anxiety is a feeling that you get when you feel that you are unable to cope with a problem in your life. Stress is a feeling of uncertainty and anxiety is an expectation that something bad could happen.
What are the Effects of Stress and Anxiety on our health and body?
The stress response is a survival mechanism that prepares us to deal with danger or a potential threat by helping us cope with the stress and danger at the moment. Long-term stress, however, can be harmful to the body. Stressful situations and emotions can trigger a stress response, which causes the brain to release stress hormones, such as cortisol, into the body. This response is often referred to as the fight-or-flight reaction. The body prepares for either fight or flight. During a stressful event, hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol prepare the body to react to potential danger, also known as the fight-or-flight response. These hormones increase the heart, breathing, and other functions in the body to help us respond to stressful events.
What health problems are caused by stress and anxiety?
Stress and anxiety are both triggers for a variety of physical ailments. Often anxiety symptoms will be mistaken for other illnesses or physical complaints, leading to an unnecessary and expensive medical investigation. Stress and anxiety can cause headaches, nausea, sleep disorders, digestive problems, and back pain, but they can also play a role in more serious ailments including heart disease, diabetes, and asthma.
What are the healthy ways to handle Stress and Anxiety?
If you are suffering from anxiety or stress, then you should start making a list of things that make you feel good and keep your body healthy, such as spending time with loved ones, doing regular physical activities, eating nutrients packed foods, getting connected with supportive people, and avoiding using electronic devices for a long time. Once you are done with this list, prioritize the things according to their importance and do the things one by one. Try to do those things that are easy to do first and make the difficult ones for later. It will be the best thing you can do to get rid of anxiety and stress.
